Rocky Mount woman shot outside her home dies
Tonya Boyd, a 43-year-old woman shot Monday outside her home in Rocky Mount, has died. Police say her ex-boyfriend, Brian Vincent White, shot her in violation of a protective order.
Posted — UpdatedWhite was expected in court early Tuesday, where he faces a charge of first-degree murder. Police said White shot Boyd and her son, 21-year-old Emmanuel Boyd, as the pair escorted a younger child to the bus stop near the intersection of Westry Road and Primrose Place.
White is charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection to Emmanuel Boyd's shooting and violating a protection order. The younger child was not injured.
Court records show that Tonya Boyd had a temporary restraining order on file to protect her from White. In her application, Boyd wrote that White told her there would be "a price to pay for stringing him along" and warned she could expect a "closed-casket funeral."
"She's been having trouble with this man for a long time," said a neighbor who was too scared to give her name.
