Rocky Mount police are investigating the death of a 10-year-old who died Monday morning.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police are investigating the death of a 10-year-old who died Monday morning.

Police have released little details about the victim or the case but said Monday that officers received a report Saturday afternoon of an alleged child assault.

The child was treated at Nash General Hospital and later transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital, where the child died at about 4 a.m.

Police said Monday morning that there was no relevant information to support any criminal wrongdoing but that an autopsy will be performed to determine if a criminal investigation is necessary.

Nash County Department of Social Services has also been involved in the investigation, police said.
