ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount residents are advised to be on the lookout for a man asking for money in a Wal-Mart parking lot and surrounding store parking lots, police said Tuesday.

"He approaches women asking for money, stating that he has changed his life around and then displays a notebook with 'names' of individuals in the community who will vouch for him," police wrote in a news release Tuesday. "The names listed include various individuals in the community to include police department employees. This information is false."

The only description police provided is that the man is black.

"Do not give donations without determining the validity of the organization or individual, particularly to an individual walking around in a parking lot soliciting funds," police said.

If you see the man, contact police at 972-1411 and provide a detailed description of the man and location.
