Rocky Mount man charged with animal cruelty

Police responded to 440 S. Fairview Road Thursday in reference to a deceased cat.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man is accused of shooting a cat.

Police responded to 440 S. Fairview Road Thursday in reference to a deceased cat.

Upon arrival, officers said they learned that Joey Jay Baker had shot the cat with a high-powered rifle.

Officers charged Baker with a felony count of cruelty to animals and with resist, obstruct and delay.

He was being held Thursday afternoon in the Edgecombe County Jail on a $2,000 bond.
