Roanoke Rapids man charged with Tuesday shooting

A Roanoke Rapids man was charged with a shooting at a motel on Tuesday.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested and given a $52,000 bond after police say he shot another man at a motel.

James Randolph Williams Jr., 25, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by felon, and possession of cocaine and marijuana, according to a news release from the city's police department. Williams was also served three outstanding warrants.

Officers responded to the shooting at the motel on Jackson Street just before midnight on Dec. 29. When they arrived at the motel, they found the victim lying in Jackson Street with a gunshot wound to his lower body.

During the investigation, officer located Williams hiding in a room at the motel and took him into custody without incident.

Williams is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 27.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital, police said.
