Roanoke Rapids man charged with child prostitution

Roanoke Rapids police have arrested a man amid accusations that he drugged and used minors in prostitution.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Roanoke Rapids police have arrested a man amid accusations that he drugged and used minors in prostitution.

Kevin Johnson, 50, of 812 W. Fifth St., was charged with one count of participating in the prostitution of a juvenile and 12 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Deputy Police Chief Adam Bondarek said that Johnson has been charged in a case involving a 15-year-old, but investigators suspect that there are multiple victims. He said that Johnson gave the victims a controlled substance.

More details of the case weren't released.

Johnson was placed in the Halifax County jail under a $5,000 bond. His first court appearance was set for Dec. 15.
