MORRISVILLE, N.C. — The North Carolina Patriot Guard, motorcycle riders who pay tribute to fallen soldiers, first responders and honorably discharged veterans, escorted a hearse with the body of a U.S. Army veteran from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to a Fayetteville funeral home Tuesday night.

Jason D. Landphair of Fayetteville was one of three Defense Department contractors killed at North Kabul International Airport in late January by a man in an Afghan military uniform. The gunman was killed at the scene.

Landphair was killed during his fourth trip to Afghanistan – the previous three as a medic for the U.S. Army Special Forces. He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the killings.
