Rex loses president to Orlando hospital system
Rex Healthcare President David Strong has been named president and chief executive of Orlando Health, officials said Tuesday.

Strong has headed Rex since 2004, leading the hospital system on a rapid expansion across Wake County and fending off a takeover bid by rival WakeMed. He also serves as chief operating officer for system affiliations at UNC Health Care, which has overseen Rex since 2000, helping the Chapel Hill-based health system to grow across central North Carolina.
"David is a leader who has successfully guided several organizations through the rapidly and continually changing health care environment," Dianna Morgan, chairwoman of the board of directors for Orlando Health, said in a statement.
Orlando Health is a $2.1 billion system that includes eight wholly-owned or partnership hospitals, two of the largest multi-specialty practices in Central Florida, ownership in an outpatient surgery center and a subsidiary interest in five outpatient imaging centers.
Before Rex, Strong served as executive vice president at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, La., and chief operating officer of Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City.
Rex named Chief Operating Officer Steve Burriss interim president.
