Donald Trump selects Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as running mate
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has chosen Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate, according to the Indianapolis Star.
Posted — UpdatedAccording to CNN, Trump officially offered Pence the slot Thursday evening and Pence accepted.
Other national media organizations, including NBC News, and The New York Times, say Trump is "leaning" toward Pence but has not made a decision.
Speculation has been widespread in recent days about who Trump would select, with the finalists emerging as Pence, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Pence is running for re-election, but Indiana law prevents him from seeking two offices at once. He faces a Friday deadline to withdraw from the governor's race.
Trump was making his final decision from California, where he is scheduled to attend a series of fundraisers at a distance from many of his closest advisers.
All three of the finalists have had extensive conversations with Trump and his family in recent days.
