Registered sex offender faces 22 new charges in abuse case
Cumberland County sheriff's detectives have charged a registered sex offender accused of abusing a child for nearly a decade.

Manuel Ferrer, 58, of 3298 Reno Drive, Fayetteville, was arrested Tuesday after a monthlong investigation. He faces 22 felony charges, including first-degree rape of a child, first-degree statutory rape, sex offense in a parental role, crimes against nature and indecent liberties with a minor.
The victim told investigators that Ferrer had inappropriate contact with her from 2003 until February 2012. The behavior happened at his home, she said.
Ferrer was held on $1.4 million bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
According to the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry, Ferrer was convicted in another state in 1995 and listed on the registry since 2005. His victim was 18 or older.
