MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Authorities are watching the baggage claim areas at Raleigh-Durham International Airport more closely after a spate of reports of stolen bags, a spokeswoman said.

Mindy Hamlin, RDU spokeswoman, said the airport has stepped up patrols in the baggage areas, will install surveillance cameras and is working with airlines to better time the arrival of bags with the arrival of passengers.

Hamlin said 20 travelers have filed reports of stolen bags with RDU police this year. She pointed out that the airport has served almost 3 million trips since Jan. 1.
