Raleigh teen programs include zombie survival camp, fun run

Raleigh parks offers programs for all ages, including the sometimes hard-to-reach teen audience. 

The Saint Monica Teen Center offers everything from homework help to a teen lounge and social activities. The Raleigh Youth Council gives kids opportunities for leadership, community service and more. And the city also offers various activities for them. Check the city's Teen Program page for more information.

Here are some events coming up: 

We Are Bully Free 5K Fun Run is 8 a.m. to noon, Oct. 18, at the Neuse River Greenway Trail at Anderson Point Park. It's a 5K fun run and walk tro raise awareness about the dangers of bullying and steps for prevention, according to the description. In addition to the race, there also will be information booths, games and activities. Spots are limited. The fee is $5 for those under 18 and $10 for ages 19 and up. The fee includes a race T-shirt. 

The city also will offer some day camps for upcoming teacher work days.

Teens Traveling the Triangle runs 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sept. 25 and Oct. 29, at the Jaycee Community Center. It's designed for ages 11 to 14. The camp includes at least two field trips a day to places such as athletic arenas, a bowling alley and arcade. It's $35 per session.

Zombie Survival is 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Oct. 29, at Lake Johnson. It's for kids 12 to 17. The fee is $35. Kids spend the day outside, building shelter, caring for the wounded and conducting other duties necessary during a zombie apocalypse.
