Raleigh sisters using booming monogram business to support charity

They now monogram clothing, jewelry, accessories and more. The business has gotten so big they have recently had to move it out of their house in the North Ridge community of Raleigh to a business location nearby.

“We had like a record-high number of orders in November, which was about 2,000 orders, which is crazy,” Alex said.

They have shipped monograms to 45 of the 50 states and four foreign countries, according to their father, Terry Barrett. With 40,000 followers on Instagram, business analysts say the teens are social media marketing geniuses.

“Their motto is, ‘Making girls happy one monogram at a time,’ and they are doing it,” said the girls’ mother, Kristin Eubanks Barrett.

Sophie says she and her sister try to make a personal connection with girls on Instagram. “We will comment back to them, and they will really enjoy that,” she said.

They’re doing it with a social conscience, giving back more than $5,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer. The girls have created a “Cure” sweatshirt to generate even more money for the cause, and they plan to unveil The Pinky Girl app and market their monograms to sororities nationwide.

Alex and Sophie are both black belts in karate. They say the discipline and devotion they learned in martial arts have carried over to their monogramming business. Alex says she wants to major in business and possibly textiles at North Carolina State University.
