Raleigh shooting victim laid to rest
A 19-year-old Raleigh man who was shot to death last weekend was laid to rest Saturday.
Posted — UpdatedFuneral services for Traveon "Smurf" Antwane Hayes were held at Church of God of Prophecy, 1200 State St. in Raleigh, at 1 p.m. Viewing starts at noon.
There was a large turnout at a wake for Hayes at Chapell's Funeral Home in Garner Friday evening, family members said.
Hayes was shot multiple times while sitting in a car in an apartment complex parking lot in the 6500 block of Suburban Drive late April 17. Joshua Daiwan Simmons, 17, of 7115-1C Sandy Forks Road in Raleigh, was charged with murder in connection with Hayes' death.
Police said the shooting stemmed from a dispute, but haven't commented on the motive.
