Raleigh police ID armed robbery suspects caught in chase
An armed robbery at a Raleigh nightclub early Friday led to a 12-mile chase and the arrest of four suspects, police said.

Police said that two men armed with a gun robbed Antonio Demond Hopkins, 23, in the 1300 block of Capital Boulevard around 1:45 a.m. The suspects then fled in a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier, along with the female driver and another male passenger.
The Cavalier sped away from a traffic stop in downtown Raleigh and led authorities on chase that lasted a little more than 10 minutes and reached speeds up to 85 mph, police said.
The car ran over stopsticks on U.S. Highway 401, and police arrested four people:
- Laronz Corey Black, 20, of Raleigh
- Risheen Vontay Robinson, 19, of Raleigh
- Deon Montrel Sykes, 24, of Rocky Mount
- Dequeisha Marie Wiggins, 23, of Greenville
Police said officers searched the car and found a gun that had been reported stolen in Rocky Mount.
All four suspects were charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and possession of stolen goods. They were all placed in the Wake County jail.
Sykes was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, and Wiggins faces additional charges of felony fleeing to elude arrest and possession of marijuana.
Sykes was convicted of conspiracy to commit armed robbery in 2005, according to state Department of Correction records. He served about 17 months in jail, followed by an 8-month sentence for post-release violations. He also has convictions for dealing drugs and larceny.
Robinson was released from jail in December after serving less than two months for four counts of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, DOC records state. Those offenses were committed two months after he finished a year-long sentence for violating his probation for two break-in and one larceny convictions in 2008.
