RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police arrested a registered sex offender on first-degree rape charges Monday.

Donald Wesley Currin Jr., 33, of 7200 Sunset View Court in Willow Spring, offered a woman a ride, then took her to a construction site in the 2500 block of South Saunders Street where he raped her at knife point, according to Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

Police have not yet said when the alleged assault took place.

According to state Department of Correction records, Currin has a long list of past offenses, including assault on a woman. The North Carolina Sex Offender Registry lists Currin as being convicted earlier this year of kidnapping a minor.

He was being held in the Wake County Jail under a $1 million bond.
