Raleigh PD seeks two men in fatal shooting

The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. at Washington Terrace apartments in the 1900 block of Milburnie Road near St. Augustine’s University.

Police said Travis Ramon Lucas, 24, was shot after two men broke into his residence. He was taken to WakeMed, where he later died.

A 911 caller, who identified herself as the mother of Lucas' children, said the men kicked in the door and shot Lucas.  

"He's bleeding to death," she told the dispatcher. "Please come now."

The incident is not believed to be related to the campus.

The first assailant was described as black with a thin build, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black skull cap and black pants.

The second assailant was described as black with a stocky build, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing a white or brown skull cap and a gray jacket.

The men fled the scene on foot, police said.

According to a police report, Lucas was the victim of an attempted strong arm robbery at the same address on July 25. Police have not said whether the two crimes are linked, and are not commenting on possible motives.

Neighbor Stephanie Vick said the shooting has made her nervous.

"I'm in my home. I'm asleep. I'm not hearing anything. I wake and I see all this – yellow tape surrounding the house. I couldn't believe it," she said. "Around here in this vicinity, it's quiet. Everybody minds their own business. I don't know what to think."
