Raleigh man charged in convenience store, motel shootings

Police said Wednesday that they have arrested a Raleigh man in connection with Tuesday afternoon shootings at a convenience store and a motel in east Raleigh.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police said Wednesday that they have arrested a Raleigh man in connection with Tuesday afternoon shootings at a convenience store and a motel in east Raleigh.

William Thomas Holden, 19, of 2429 Stevens Road, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a weapon into occupied property.

The shootings happened shortly after 5 p.m. near the intersection of New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road.

A 24-year-old man was shot outside the EZWay Mart on New Bern Avenue, and bullets from that incident went into a room at the Microtel Inn on nearby Plainview Drive, wounding a 19-year-old man, police said.

The first victim was able to flag down an ambulance and was taken to WakeMed for treatment. The second victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. Neither injury was life-threatening, police said.
