Raleigh man arrested in Apex bank robbery

Van David Kalcevic, 21, of 2000-201 University Woods Road, is accused of using a handgun to rob the BB&T bank at 1130 Beaver Creek Commons Drive. A surveillance photo shows a masked man holding a gun sliding over a bank teller's desk as people huddle on the floor in the background.

Police say Kalcevic rode a bicycle to the bank and then stole a bank employee's car after the robbery. Officers found the car abandoned behind the movie theater at the nearby Beaver Creek Commons shopping center.

At the time of the robbery, the FBI said the robber appeared to have tactical training. The FBI's Charlotte division was involved in Kalcevic's arrest, but no further details were released.

Kalcevic was already in custody in Wake County for unrelated charges and was served the arrest warrants at the jail. He is charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and six counts of second-degree kidnapping.
