Raleigh limits concerts in woman's home
A city board has upheld the findings of zoning inspectors that a Raleigh woman was illegally operating a business out of her house by holding several concerts there each year.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A city board has upheld the findings of zoning inspectors that a Raleigh woman was illegally operating a business out of her house by holding several concerts there each year.
The Board of Adjustment didn't accept Bett Padgett's argument that the concerts were social gatherings for friends that allowed musicians to try out new material.
Under Raleigh's city codes, no more than three scheduled events like that can be held in a year. Padgett and her husband have hosted 87 since 2000.
Padgett is so frustrated by the city's stance on the concerts that she has written a protest song about it.
She now faces fines of up to $500 for each concert she hosts beyond the three allowed each year by the city.
