Raleigh's 2011 youth touch football league might be canceled if more kids don't sign up.

The registration period for the program has been extended to Aug. 19 with the hopes that more sign on. The program is an introduction to the sport and focuses on learning basic skills in a non-competitive format.

Thanks to the mom who emailed me about it yesterday. She told me that her son is really looking forward to the program and hoping more kids register.

The touch football program is offered to kids ages 5 and 6 (age is as of July 31, 2011). All games and practices are held at Williams Park in northwest Raleigh and will be primarily held on Saturdays, starting in September and ending in November. The fee is just $36 for city residents and $46 for non-residents. That price includes a shirt. You can register at Lake Lynn Community Center. Call the center at 919-870-2911 for details.

Lake Lynn also offers a youth soccer league for kids ages 5 to 6 and 7 to 8 (age is as of July 31, 2011 again). Practice and games will be held at Williams Park or Kiwanis Park and will be played on Saturdays. The league runs from September to November. The cost for city residents is $40 and $52 for non-residents. The fee includes a shirt. Again, for questions or more information, contact Lake Lynn Community Center at 919-870-2911.

My older daughter has done several sports programs with the city park's department. All were introductions to different sports, including soccer and gymnastics. They were all great (we love Coach K at Laurel Hills Community Center) and a great value.
