Monday's rain rolling out; cooler temperatures rolling in
The work week started off messy with a Monday morning full of rain across the Triangle and surrounding areas, but the end of the week is looking better.
Posted — Updated"It’s already begun to taper off just a little bit. Back to the west, it’s looking a lot more patchy," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. "As the rain rolls out, some cooler temperatures roll in."
Monday's temperatures started out in the low to mid 50s but should drop to about 47 degrees later in the day. The cooler temperatures will stick around Tuesday.
"Temperatures will drop off a little bit later this afternoon, and tomorrow will be noticeably colder," Gardner said. "That’s kind of tough if you had a nice Christmas break and have to get back into the swing of things today."
Tuesday will be dreary and chilly with some light rain possible and highs in the mid to upper 40s.
"By Wednesday and Thursday, we should see a little bit of sunshine as we get into the first part of the New Year," Gardner said.
The abundant rainfall has swelled Falls Lake and Jordan Lake, which are more than 2 feet above normal level. But the water level at both lakes were much lower two years ago, when the area was dealing with a drought.
