Raeford teens accused of coercing girl into sex acts

A student at Hoke County High School filed a sexual assault report with a school resource officer on April 13, and authorities on Wednesday charged Deandre Lemaris Spivey-McLean, 17, of 218 Leisure Trail in Raeford, and JeSean Deondre McPhaul, 19, of 170 Purvis Court in Raeford.

The girl said Spivey-McLean threatened to post sexually explicit material of her to social media if she did not perform sexual acts on him and several other males. The alleged crimes took place between November 2014 and April, authorities said.

Sheriff Hubert Peterkin say Spivey-McLean would text her and tell her to leave class and head to a special location on Hoke High's campus.

"A car would be would be there to pick her up, and she would get into the car against her will to go," Peterkin said. "We have now determined six locations where she was forced to be with different people to perform sexual acts."

One of the locations was a warehouse at an abandoned saw mill not far from the school, he said.

Spivey-McLean is charged with six counts each of human trafficking, sexual servitude, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree forcible sex offense and one count each of second-degree forcible rape, first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

McPhaul, who is accused of driving the girl to the different locations and also participating in sexual acts with her, is charged with six counts each of statutory rape, second-degree statutory sex offense and first-degree kidnapping.

Spivey-McLean was taken into custody at Hoke High, and he was in jail Thursday under a $400,000 secured bond. McPhaul turned himself in to authorities and was being held under a $250,000 secured bond.

Peterkin said investigators have collected evidence that may lead to the arrest of several more people in this case.

He also said there may be more victims in the case, and he hopes the arrests will spur them to come forward.
