RAEFORD, N.C. — Hoke County sheriff's investigators said Wednesday that they have arrested a Raeford man suspected of shooting another man at a cookout.

Jamar Tereik Gates, 26, of 196 Gates Lane, was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The sheriff's office said two groups of people got into an argument Saturday at Hillcrest Mobile Home Park and that Gates allegedly shot Keith Ortiz Harris multiple times in the torso before fleeing the scene.

Authorities haven't offered a motive for the shooting.

Harris was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, authorities said.

Gates was jailed under a $2 million bond.
