RAEFORD, N.C. — The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a child abuse case involving a 20-month-old girl who suffered a skull fracture, multiple bumps and knots on her head, scratches on her sides, a swollen left eye and bruising on her face.

The girl arrived at Moore Regional Hospital about 6 p.m. Tuesday with multiple injuries. Her parents "were extremely irate" and not cooperative with social services workers, according to the sheriff's office. By the time detectives arrived, the parents had already left their daughter at the hospital and returned to their Raeford home.

The 20-month-old girl's condition was not released.

Social services workers later took the couple's 9-month-old baby into custody. The parents agreed to let authorities search the home and take photographs and other evidence. The investigation was ongoing, and no other information was released.
