Halloween is already over, but the fall fun still continues in the Triangle. We have some great outdoor events this weekend, along with a shopping extravaganza and a popular downtown party.
Free to Breathe Run/Walk: Lung Cancer Awareness
The sixth annual Free to Breathe Run/Walk, which raises support and awareness to defeat lung cancer, is this Saturday morning at North Hills. Registration on the day of the event for either the 5K run or the 1-mile run or walk is $30. The event starts at 8 a.m. All proceeds will benefit North Carolina Lung Cancer Partnership's research, education and awareness programs.
Furry 5K
Another race this weekend that supports a good cause is the Furry 5K, sponsored by Second Chance Pet Adoptions. There will be two 5K races, one for people and one that allows dogs to participate, a 2K dog walk, a 1K senior dog walk and plenty of food, vendors and demonstrations. You can register the day of the event at Bond Park in Cary at 9 a.m.
Holly Day Fair
For all you shoppers, the Holly Day Fair in Fayetteville continues through the weekend at the Crown Expo Center. General admission is $9, and you can get a head start on your holiday shopping. Vendors will be selling a variety of products, including Christmas decorations, crafts, jewelry, clothes, toys, accessories, household items and more. Proceeds from the event are distributed back to the local community by the Junior League of Fayetteville. Shopping starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
Guy Fawkes Night
The Oxford's third annual Guy Fawkes Night is this Saturday night, bringing you free live music, games, performers and a fire-shooting statue. This English holiday commemorates Guy Fawkes' failed attempt of blowing up the House of Lords, but we Americans can still take part in the fun. Proceeds from Guy Fawkes masks and sparklers sold will benefit Raleigh City Farm. Although the event is free, VIP tickets are available. VIP guests will receive free beer, wine, food and goodie bags, as well as close proximity to the stage.
Wilson Whirligig Festival
Wilson's annual Whirligig Festival returns this Saturday and Sunday for art, live entertainment, food and fun. Shop for unique gifts at the vendor booths and admire the entries in the Whirligig Contest and the Cupcake Challenge. The festival starts at 10 Saturday morning and noon on Sunday.
