GARNER, N.C. — Wake County health officials issued a rabies notice Friday for residents and visitors in the vicinity of the Rolling Hills Estates subdivision in Garner.

The Rolling Hills Estates subdivision is located off of Rand Road, between Ten-Ten Road and N.C. Highway 50.

A case of rabies was confirmed Friday morning in a fox that exposed a dog in the area. The dog had been vaccinated against rabies and only required a rabies booster.

"We don't want to alarm residents in Garner, but they should be aware of this case and of the potential for exposure to themselves, family members and their pets" Gibbie Harris, Wake County Community Health director, said in a statement.

Anyone living in or visiting the area who has been scratched or bitten by an animal they don't know is urged to call the health department's clinic. The daytime phone number is 919-250-4462; the after-hours number is 919-839-3059.
