Puppy has leg amputated, receives 'outpouring of support'

Maggie, a 3-month-old puppy that was hit by a car and had one of her legs amputated Tuesday, is recovering well and has received an "outpouring of support," according to Wake County Animal Care, Control & Adoption officials.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Maggie, a 3-month-old puppy that was hit by a car and had one of her legs amputated Tuesday, is recovering well and has received an "outpouring of support," according to Wake County Animal Care, Control & Adoption officials.

"She is not feeling up to eating yet, but the day is young. Dr. Stevens placed a new cast on the remaining hind leg. It seemed a bit more unstable this morning than before," wrote Director Michael Williams.

A citizen found Maggie, a mixed-breed dog, near U.S. Highway 64 a few days ago. Officials said they believe she was hit by a car. One of her legs was shattered and the other hind leg was injured, but should recover with therapy, officials said.

"We have had an outpouring of support for Maggie, who will be placed into foster care soon for rehab. She will be available for adoption once her rehab is complete. We do need donations to help fund her treatment and rehab, if anyone can help. We will be posting updates on Maggie's Web page."
