Pullen Park's kiddie boats reopened today, about a week ahead of the city's predicted schedule.

The boats closed earlier this month for some repairs and annual maintenance.

But Richard Costello, the city's recreation program director, tells me that Pullen's playground will be closed on Monday for some work. During the winter season, Pullen's rides are closed on Monday, though the playground is normally open.

Parks staff, along with The Resolute Building Company, which was involved in the recent overhaul of the park, decided to close the playground this Monday (Feb. 13) to replace a section of pavement that has cracked.

"The replacement of the section which lies within the main playground entrance was determined after several cracks have recently appeared," Costello tells me. "Heavy equipment will be in use throughout the day to complete this task and park guest will not be allowed within the work area."

The playground will reopen on Tuesday.

Pullen Park is on Ashe Avenue near downtown Raleigh.
