Seasonal public pools and spraygrounds across the region will begin opening to the public starting this Memorial Day weekend.

Outdoor pools in Raleigh, Knightdale, Sanford and Rocky Mount are among those that will open this weekend. Others, including public pools in Durham, will open starting in June, though its spraygrounds began opening this month.

Some notes: Wake Forest's Holding Park Pool will not open this weekend as it has for decades. A significant leak has forced its closure until July, at the earliest, according to the town's website.

Fuquay-Varina's popular new sprayground, which opened last year, is scheduled to open on June 4.

And construction on Jack Smith Park in Cary, which includes a new sprayground, is a little bit behind schedule thanks to all of this rainy weather. Officials hope to get it open in the next several weeks.

(For more about planned spraygrounds across the region, read my earlier post).
