Pope airman pleaded guilty to negligent homicide, faces court-martial
A Pope Army Airfield officer charged in a fatal training incident pleaded guilty to negligent homicide, the military announced Thursday.

Staff Sgt. Gabriel A. Rosa, a noncommissioned officer, was sentenced during a summary court-martial on Wednesday to a reduction in rank, forfeiture of $1,633 in pay and “restriction to specified limits for 60 days.”
Rosa pleaded responsibility for running over and killing Staff Sgt. Timothy J. Wright with a Humvee during a July 2014 training exercise.
Negligent homicide is a crime under military law that addresses acts of negligence resulting in death during military operations. The state of North Carolina does not have a criminal equivalent to negligent homicide.
The case will now be reviewed by 43rd Airlift Group Commander Col. Kenneth E. Moss.
“Under the rules for court-martial, Rosa may submit a request for clemency, including any matter in defense, extenuation, or mitigation he would like Moss to consider, including clemency recommendations from others on his behalf,” the military said. “The family of the victim…may also submit a statement for Moss’ consideration.”
