Yeah, I just, uh, I'm so elated for these guys. I'm honestly, I feel numb. It was an incredible ballgame. What a great championship atmosphere, tremendous crowd. Charlotte has put on an unbelievable event. We had so much fun here this week. And what a great baseball game. You know, both teams really pitched and, and really competed on the mound and it was really hard to string any offense together. Great job by Ethan Murray with two strikes. Uh, you know, got a, got a change up up and hit the double and then we moved him over with a sac fly and scored him with the sac fly. Uh, and you know, it was after that it was really hard to get anything going offensively. I tell you as my first look at chris villa mont since he's been in high school and he was, he was as good as advertised and you know, just, just a tremendous ball game. I, I couldn't be more proud of our guys. And uh, we're gonna enjoy this on the ride home. We'll start with kip coons. Yeah chris so looking back a little bit when when you first took the Duke job I know a lot of people told you privately it's not a place where you can win. And what did you see and how long you know honestly did you think it would take to be competitive? Yeah. A lot of my closest friends in baseball told me I was making a mistake and you know for me it was always about the combination of of A. Cc. Baseball uh the opportunity to play in the A. C. C. Combined with a world class education. And I just felt really strongly that who's not going to be at least intrigued by the idea of playing baseball in the A. C. C. While getting a Duke degree. And uh you know we've had an unbelievable recruiting coordinator now for nine years now. An associate head coach who's just continued to go out there and and out hustle and and beat the bushes and find great players and guys that really do value that combination of elite academics. Uh one of the world's best universities with a chance to play in this this great baseball conference. So you know we felt like that we could recruit to Duke uh and and we've been fortunate to have great kids come in here and josh Jordan deserves a lot of credit for that Casey hints, chris, congratulations on the win. Obviously you just touched on, you know how extremely well pitched this game was. But if you wouldn't mind touch on cooper and just the performance he had arguably one of the best I've seen this season. Yeah and I think Casey it was the best start of his career and you know, he had a really rough start in his last start at Clemson, last regular season start, and it just shows his maturity and toughness. And when the one thing I love about cooper is good start, bad start, his preparation for the next week never changes. He has a great process, he's an incredibly hard worker and he never gets too enamored with his success and he never beats himself up too much when he struggles, he just gets right back to his work. And I think his preparation as good as anybody's and that's allowed him to, you know, not uh sort of succumb to uh falling into the trap of losing confidence, He just gets right back on the horse. And today, you know, he was, he was really good with the fastball, it was up to 93 then the breaking ball was producing a lot of swing and miss And he was just really tough recital. Hey coach chris, congratulations on winning the title today. A good pitching stool and also good on your pitching staff that you guys have a really fresh pitching staff for the for the the N. C. A. A. Tournament. Yeah. You know I mean we we we we were so efficient. You know we'll have to get some guys some work on Tuesday will likely do some simulated game on Tuesday to make sure some pictures get some work. And our and our our sharp going into the regional because you never know you may have to play for ball games to win a regional. We've been through that uh in Athens a couple of years ago and so I was really impressed and I can't say enough about the job by chris Gordon or pitching coach, you know, um taking over and really an impossible spot just a few weeks before the season started having so much inexperience in the bullpen. And then, you know, we hit a wall there uh in april where we were struggling. Uh and it's easy at that point for everybody to start questioning everybody right. Uh and and he found a way to work our guys through that, to get to the other side of it. And then I think we've pitched as well in, in the month of May as anybody in the country and he deserves an enormous amount of credit for that. Okay, If I can follow up real quick, is that great to have it early, having him the wall in april instead of now, Because if you had that now, it'll be like, you can be like, what's going on, but it's early for sure. We probably could hit that wall in May. We probably be sitting at home right now. Um Yeah, you know, inevitably you play a college baseball season, you have those lulls, you know, you have to survive there stretches. Always tell our guys there stretches in the college baseball season that you don't thrive. You just try to survive. And and certainly we had one of those stretches in the middle of april and you just gotta work your way to the other side of it. And we we have an expression in our program, we say stay in the fight and that's what you have to do. You can't you can't give up on yourself or give up on the process, you just have to keep grinding and trust that you can get to the other side of it. Our guys did that this year. And boy, that's a really satisfying feeling. Just a lot of pride as a coach to, to see them work through that. And it's not just for the success they've had in this year, but you know, when you learn how to battle through adversity and its that theres a carryover effect for everything that you do down the road, guys will build off of this year this season and everything that they've been through for the, for the rest of their lives translations. I'm winning. Thank you jake piazza because congrats on the big win. And I wanted to ask particularly about the sixth inning mountain visit, um, when coach comes out and it seems like it's a real easy time for cooper and a number of other guys to start pressing and then cooper cracked a smile, even smiling and I'm wondering what it is that's just allowing the guys to just to just play and look like, You know, it's, it's back yard wiffle ball, very free out there. Well, that's one of the things that we, we've really tried to make a point of emphasis here down the stretch is just finding the joy and competing. And I'll ask, I'd love to know what coach Gordon said to him in that moment right there too. But it's a great piece of coaching, whatever he said. And uh, you know, we, we talked before every game down the stretch here about just finding ways to enjoy the moment to be loose, to have fun with us. These guys have worked so hard. We've asked more of this year's team than any team. And, and certainly in my coaching career with all of the, the protocols and, you know, some of the difficult things they've had to go through. And so I really wanted them just to, just to enjoy this ride down the stretch. And uh, it's great to, to see them doing that. I walked into the locker room this morning for our pregame meeting and they're jamming music and they're dancing and, and that for me is, is a big part of the fun of this. Just watching them enjoy the experience. Last question for coach, jim Sumner chris, uh, you're going to ask you kind of piggyback on jake's question about the sixth inning, uh, cooper induces a couple of routine ground balls and through. No fault is on, these are on third base with one out. You've got matt dot when a left equality left in the penn state's got a couple of good left handed at bats coming up. What made you decide to leave cooper in talking about his ability to work his way out of that jam? Yeah, I'll tell you what man, that is an awesome question. And there was a lot of conversation going on in the dugout during that period of time. You know, if if I'm being honest with you, if you play that situation by the book, you play the percentages matt dot man should have been in that moment. And you know, we talked about that and we even had, if I'm being honest with you, we had some disagreement in the moment about how to manage it and ultimately decided that that cooper deserved the opportunity to work himself off the field right there. He pitched such a great ball game and I, and you know, we felt like that he pitched that part of their lineup tough and and we gave him a chance to work through it and get off the field and he was able to induce the ground ball to take him and get us off the field. But it went against my you know we we try to coach based on the analytics and and it did it absolutely went against the analytics to to leave him in to face those guys right there. Let me ask you one quick follow up. This is uh actually they threw it on TV and I assume they're correct. But in four a. c. c. tournament games not one of your opponents attempted to steal. What does that say about? Not just mike Rothenberg's ability but the ability of your pictures to hold runners close to get rid of the ball quick. That's a remarkable statistic. Yeah it's pretty terrific. I think you hit it on the head. It says a lot about Mike Rothenberg and the job he's done you know, and he did it time and time late in that game where he had to block uh, an executed to strike breaking ball when it would have been really easy to take a chance and try to advance a base, Uh, to get in scoring position and put the tying run at 2nd base. Um, Again, I want to highlight, it says a lot about the job that chris Gordon has done, because that wasn't a strength of ours early in the year, and it certainly wasn't a strength for cooper Stenson early in the year. Uh, and today, you know, we, we made, we were intentional about slowing the game down and picking to first base often. And we just said, look, you know what? Nobody's gonna like it, but we're gonna, we're gonna force the issue with this because if we don't, we feel like state could get the run game going. They've been really aggressive taking extra bases. Earlier in the tournament, We talked about that with our team this morning. Uh, and you know, we just, we said, look, we have to pick five or six times during the back. That's what we'll do, but we'll try to wear them down a little bit, uh, just by by holding holding them tight at first base. That's because.

Hi, everyone. Meteorologist Anthony Baglione here in the Wral Severe Weather Center. Let's talk about our forecast as we head into the upcoming week. As we head past this weekend, we have a couple of things there, what we're tracking as far as sunshine returning. So it's been definitely kind of a cloudy weekend for most of us on the whole. Should be a very pleasant start to the week though. Some sunshine getting through warmer temperatures, nineties by the time we get into our Thursday and then a holiday weekend, rain chances very early starting on, let's say Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. We're just tracking the potential for some rain heading into the holiday weekend. I'll talk about that here in just a second. Otherwise, let's talk about what we're looking at here. Future cast wise, there could be a spotty Sprinkle as we get into tonight for the most part though. Uh, just about everyone's quiet. Something to keep in mind though. There could be some fog out there for your Monday morning commute. We should start off with a little bit of fog. We'll start off with partly cloudy skies and really keep a mix of sun and clouds through the majority of the day. It'll be dry though to start the week and actually a pretty good day. If you want to just enjoy out on the patio or something, it should be fine. Maybe firing up the grill tomorrow night. Sounds kind of good. We go to 80 degrees for a high temperature tomorrow. 76 at seven o'clock. And then we start to see a warm up once again. 84 on Tuesday, 88 on Wednesday, we should hit 91 by the time we get to our Thursday 86 on Friday. And I know a lot of times when that heat kind of comes back into the forecast that begs the question, is it gonna feel gross as you walk outside? I really don't think it will the next couple of days it does get back in the humid kind of category though for us Thursday, Friday, we're not quite too tropical where we could be during the summertime months. But I think for our Monday, Tuesday, even into Wednesday, it should feel fine as you're headed out. Just a little bit of humidity. There's what we're looking at here the next seven days. 80 on our Monday, 84 on Tuesday, we go to 88 Wednesday 91 Thursday. You see those rain chances starting to come in there. Thursday, Thursday night, a stray shower or a thunderstorm. The best chances at the this point look to come in Friday night, Saturday during the morning, we may get a break. Saturday afternoon, Sunday afternoon doesn't look like total drenching conditions, but just enough where if you're traveling, you may want to keep an eye on the forecast here with a couple of chances of showers and storms.
