GARNER, N.C. — Two people were found dead inside a Garner home Saturday morning in what police called a murder-suicide.

Their bodies were found inside 308 Hay River St. at about 10 a.m. after officers received a request to conduct a welfare check at the home.

"At this time the manners and causes of the two deaths, a male and a female, are still under investigation pending an initial report from the medical examiner," Garner police said in a statement. "We do not anticipate releasing the names of the decedents or any additional information until the medical examiner has completed his initial report, which in all likelihood will be sometime Monday."

Neighbors said a middle-aged couple had lived in the house for more than 10 years. They added that the couple wasn't known in the neighborhood but seemed quiet and never had police in front of their home until Saturday.

"I'm just wondering what happened, like you know, if it was a murder or if it's like illness or something happened, you know," neighbor Joe Suleski said. "Just kind of like wondering, but you don't know."
