Police: Smithfield woman sought in infant remains case located
Police said Thursday evening that they have spoken with a woman identified as a person of interest in their investigation into the remains found under a Smithfield home.

Johnston County District Attorney Susan Doyle said her staff would meet with police on Friday to review the information gathered in the case so far. The case isn't considered a criminal investigation at this point, she said.
Smith's brother, James Morgan, who lives in the rented home with their mother, Pamela McBride, was running a cable under the house, at 102 Hartley Drive, on Saturday afternoon when he found two trash bags in the crawl space. When he checked to see what was inside one, he found human remains wrapped in towels.
Medical examiners later confirmed that the remains of two infants were in the bags.
Investigators said they hoped Smtih, 40, could help identify the remains and provide other information to help the investigation.
McBride told police that Smith had tried to hide several pregnancies in the past, according to an application for a warrant to search the house. McBride estimated that Smith had been pregnant about 10 times, but she only knows what happened to three of the children – two are in her custody and a third was given up for adoption years ago.
