GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina A&T State University's homecoming week was marred by violence. Two people died and four were injured at a shooting at a house party on Tuesday night, Interim Greensboro Police Chief Teresa Biffle said Wednesday.

Shots were fired at an off-campus house at the 900 block of Circle Drive. One of those killed was a 19-year-old freshman at N.C. A&T, Kaneycha Turner, from Statesville.

A man was also found dead at 900 Circle Drive, and police are still working to identify him, Biffle said.

"I can't begin to imagine what they're going through," Biffle said of the victims' families. "The only thing I can do is make sure to do everything we can to make sure to bring justice to the people who caused this."

Four other gunshot victims were found at 900 Circle Drive, and one of them remains in critical condition.

"We are still processing forensics at the scene to determine how many shooters were involved," she said.

At this time, the Greensboro Police Department has no suspects.

"There were multiple people there last night. There's got to be someone there that knows something," Biffle said.

She encouraged anyone who was at the party who may have seen something to reach out to the police department at 336-373-1000.

Homecoming week at N.C. A&T is from this Sunday until next Sunday. The event, Biffle said, brings thousands of people into the city each year. The week is typically marked by parties and large gatherings. Reporters familiar with the area noted in their questions to Biffle that Circle Drive is a known area for large parties.

One reporter said she knew personally of people who have been shot and killed in that area while attending parties.

Biffle said the city was not planning on instituting a curfew or increasing patrols in the area. Instead, the city is hoping to bolster N.C. A&T's police force and encourage the community to come forward and report what they see before things get out of hand.

"We need anyone and everyone that knows of illegal gun use to call," she said. "It's going to take the community to really get a handle and get violent crime under control."

Some parties over the past couple weeks have reached more than 1,000 people, Biffle said. She encouraged students to report these large gatherings to police. That doesn't necessarily mean the police will break those parties up – she said it's good for them to be aware of where these large parties are happening in case things do go awry.

A second shooting happened a few minutes after the first on Tuesday night on Parker Street, about three miles away from Circle Drive. Officers found one gunshot victim there who was taken to the hospital for treatment.
