Police shoot dogs that attacked residents in Wake Forest
Wake Forest police said officers shot and killed two dogs that bit two people while running loose Monday morning.

The incident began around 7:40 a.m. when residents reported the dogs roaming at Gateway Commons shopping center. Police said officers tried to corral the dogs, but the animals became more aggressive. One of the officers was forced to shoot one of the dogs in the parking lot.
Officers tracked the second dog through the Traditions neighborhood and along East Wait Avenue before shooting it about 8:45 a.m. near New Hope Apartments.
Police said both animals died instantly.
“This was a very scary situation for those who were threatened or attacked by these dogs,” Police Chief Jeff Leonard said. “This was an unfortunate incident, but both dogs were extremely aggressive. We never want to have to shoot a dog, but in this case, our officers had no choice.”
The case has been transferred to Wake County Animal Care and Control.
