Police: Rocks thrown at cars near Leesville Road
Investigators said it was a close call for nearly a dozen drivers in the areas of Strickland, Leesville and Ray Roads, in Raleigh, after rocks were thrown at their windshields Monday night.
Posted — Updated"I thought it was a gunshot," said Deborah Hendren. "At first, I thought it was my tire popping until I tasted glass. Then, I realized something had been thrown or shot through my window."
She was able to quickly pull over and call police.
According to investigators, nine drivers reported having rocks hurled at their windshields from passing cars at about 11 p.m.
"As I was in the parking lot with the police, another young woman pulled up, quite shaken up, and almost in the exact same spot of her SUV got hit as well," Hendren said.
Hendren said she is thankful her two young children were not in the car at the time of the incident. Their car seats were covered in shards of glass.
"I am very grateful that I'm OK, and from what I'm hearing, the other victims are OK as well," she said. "I just hope we can all move forward and we can figure out who did this."
Hendren was treated at the emergency room and released for swallowing shards of glass.
Because it was so dark at the time, police do not have a vehicle or suspect description. The incident is under investigation.
