Police: Raleigh woman used children to help her shoplift

A Raleigh woman was arrested Friday after police say she asked three children to help her shoplift, according to arrest warrants.

CARY, N.C. — A Raleigh woman was arrested Friday after police say she used children in her care to help her steal merchandise from a Sears department store in Cary.

Shannon Maynard Holland, 31, of 813 Suffolk Boulevard, apartment F, was charged with shoplifting, misdemeanor larceny and at least two counts of contributing to the deliquency of a juvenile. She was taken to the Wake County jail and given a $13,000 bond.

According to arrest warrants, Holland asked an 8-year-old boy in her care to try on shoes at Sears, at 1105 Walnut St., and not return them to the shelf on July 31. She also directed two girls, aged 10 and 12, to watch out for security while she concealed items to shoplift, warrants state.

Investigators allege that, on Friday, Holland stole five T-shirts with a value around $146 from the same store while she was shopping with her three children, aged 5, 9 and 11.

She is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 25.
