ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Rocky Mount woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after she allegedly chased her daughter with a knife, police said Monday.

Joyce Parker, 38, of 228 E. Tower Lane, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said Shanika Saunders, 19, was cut on her left arm following an altercation with her mother. Parker was upset with Saunders over a damaged window and chased her around the house with a knife because the teen refused to leave the house, police said.

Saunders refused medical treatment for her wound, police said.

Parker also was sentenced to 15 days in jail on a contempt of court charge. Police said the charge stemmed from the use of profanity in a magistrate's court.
