"J-Rock" charged with murder, attempt on 2 others

A Fayetteville man who goes by the nickname of "J-Rock" was charged Tuesday morning with a single count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder for his role in a Monday night shooting.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man who goes by the nickname of "J-Rock" was charged Tuesday morning with a single count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder for his role in a Monday night shooting.

Police said John Lee Nowell, 39, also known as "J-Rock," shot three men who were standing in the area near Adam and Kennedy streets. One of the men, Jeffery Alford, 47, died of his injuries, police said. The two others, one of whom is the alleged shooter's uncle, were being cared for at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Both were expected to recover.

Nowell was arrested Monday night and was being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.
