Suspects arrested in shooting of 52-year-old in Fayetteville

Fayetteville police are investigating after a man was found with a bullet wound to the head Wednesday night.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Members of the Fayetteville Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit located two people in connection to a shooting Wednesday night.

Officers responded to 5555 Murchison Road at about 8:15 p.m. in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, police said they found Jasper Lee Artis, 52, of Fayetteville, lying on the sidewalk at the corner or Murchison Road and Shaw Road with a gunshot wound to his head.

Artis was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, officers located and arrested Lee Otis Evans, 46, and Sherelle Marie Johnson, 27, both of the 4900 block of Schmidt Street. Police charged both Evans and Jonson with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and felony conspiracy.

​Evans and Johnson were processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center where they both remain under a $750,000 secured bond.
