APEX, N.C. — A Cary man with his children in his car tried to speed away from an Apex police officer who thought he was an impaired driver Saturday, according to an arrest warrant.

Jason Scott Cardenas, 33, of 325 Bond Lake Drive, faces charges of speeding to elude arrest and driving while impaired.

Apex police said that another motorist called 911 to report a suspected drunk driver, so an officer tried to pull over Cardenas.

Instead of stopping, Cardenas sped away and drove carelessly and recklessly, the arrest warrant says. He ran stop signs and red lights and drove left of center before the officer could stop him.

Cardenas resisted arrest, resulting in minor injuries to him, and he refused to take a breathalyzer test, police said.

Cardenas had his 6-year-old and 10-year-old children in his vehicle, according to the arrest warrant.
