GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Goldsboro police say a 38-year-old man was injured early Monday while trying to break into a house and then lied to officers about how he got his injury.

Officers responded to 307 W. Pine St. to investigate an alleged stabbing around 3:30 a.m. They found Jerome Donald Ceaser, of 603 Witted Court, in the front yard, bleeding from a large cut on his face.

He told officers an acquaintance had assaulted him, but he could not name the person, police said. Officers later determined that Ceaser was injured when a storm window fell on his face, cutting him, as he tried to remove a window air conditioning unit to break into the house, police said.

Ceaser was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital and arrested on attempted second-degree burglary charges. He was being held under a $20,000 secured bond.
