BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington police say that an Elon woman was intoxicated when she deliberately ran over a man she lives with in the parking lot of a bowling alley.

Witnesses told police that Ashely Ann Tocharoen, 26, and Kenneth James Hodge, 28, both of 2614 Sawyer Drive in Elon, were arguing outside the Country Club Lanes on South Church Street in Burlington shortly after midnight Friday.

Hodge tried to hold onto the driver's side door of a 1998 Dodge minivan driven by Tocharoen but fell off, police said. Tocharoen drove away but returned to the parking lot a few minutes later. Witnesses said that she drove down Hodge, knocking him to the ground.

Hodge was treated for head injuries and released from Alamance Regional Medical Center. The minivan's front window was busted.

Police said that Tocharoen blew a 0.17 blood-alcohol content level in a breathalyzer test.

She was charged with driving while impaired, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and assault on a government official. She was being held in the Alamance County jail under a $1,500 secured bond.

State Department of Correction records show that Tocharoen was released from prison in November after serving a 2½-month sentence for violating her probation for assault on an officer and six counts of credit card fraud.
