ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A 48-year-old Rocky Mount man was arrested Wednesday after, police say, he brandished a gun in his ex-girlfriend's house and tried to strangle a man there.

Police said that James Henry Jones came uninvited to the Rocky Street home of his ex-girlfriend, 56-year-old Mae Jones, shortly before 10 p.m. Christopher Daniels, 38, and Vinne Jones, 28, were also in the house at the time.

James Jones brandished a rifle and asked for Mae Jones and Daniels, police said. He threatened Daniels with the rifle, but it was taken away from him. Police said that James Jones and Daniels then got into a physical fight, but Daniels got away.

James Jones was arrested at the scene without incident.

He was charged with first-degree burglary, assault by pointing a gun, assault by strangulation, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and communicating threats. He was placed in the Nash County Jail under a $15,000 bond.
