Police: 8-month-old beaten by parents had fractured skull, broken ribs
Raleigh police arrested a 29-year-old man Wednesday and charged him with child abuse, alleging that he seriously injured his 8-month-old child.
Posted — UpdatedDevon Mayshawn Shields, 29, of 1617B Burgundy St., faces one count of intentional child abuse causing serious bodily injury. He was in the Wake County jail Thursday under a $250,000 bond.
According to an arrest warrant, the 8-month-old had two skull fractures, leg fractures, four broken ribs, stomach perforation, a bruised liver and spleen and a lacerated pancreas.
Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said Thursday that the child's injuries were life-threatening and that the child was being treated at WakeMed.
