Playground Review: Harris Lake County Park

The playground at Harris Lake County Park in New Hill, which sits in southwestern Wake County, is a fun spot to visit. In addition to the trails and the lake, there's also this good-sized playground with pieces for young kids and older ones.

As you can tell by the video, it's been a few months since I shot this at Harris Lake County Park. Don't you wish the leaves were back on the trees and we could run around comfortably in shorts and T-shirts?

We'll get there. And regardless of the temperature, the playground at Harris Lake County Park in New Hill, which sits in southwestern Wake County, is a fun spot to visit. In addition to the trails and the lake, there's also this good-sized playground with pieces for young kids and older ones.

The playground is pretty standard with slides, monkey bars, a small rock climbing wall and related pieces. I like all of the corridors in the play piece for older kids. My crew also had fun on a piece that a couple of kids can hang from and spin around on.

The setting, for me, is the best part. It sits underneath tall trees that provide some nice shade during the warmer months. On this day, we brought a picnic and spent about two hours here on the playground and in the spaces nearby, exploring the woods and the edge of the lake.

Harris Lake offers a slate of regular programs for kids and families, including Nature Tots for toddlers; Forest Friends for preschoolers (now with afternoon offerings so kids who attend preschool can attend the program); and family wagon rides, among others.

The playground sits close to some restrooms and picnic shelters. For a closer look, watch the quick video tour.

Harris Lake County Park is at 2112 County Park Dr., New Hill.
