If you haven't had the chance to check out Morehead Planetarium and Science Center's new fulldome digital video shows, this summer is the time.
Morehead in Chapel Hill will be offering free snippets of two of Morehead's fulldome shows, "Carolina Skies" and "Earth, Moon and Sun," at 10 a.m. each Tuesday and Wednesday through Aug. 22. The previews are about 10 minutes each.

If you like what you see, the fulldome preview ticket doubles as a discount coupon if you purchase a ticket to a fulldome planetarium show that same day. Tickets are usually $7.25 for adults and $6 for kids, students and seniors.

Morehead Planetarium reopened back in February to show off its new fulldome digital video shows, made possible thanks to a $1.5 million donation from GlaxoSmithKline.

The new super-high-definition system creates an immersive environment where visitors are surrounded by the sights and sounds of the planetarium show. The seating also was switched up for better sight lines.

And some good news for Morehead, the planetarium's "Earth, Moon and Sun," recently won an award for "best use of humor" at an international fulldome festival in Jena, Germany.
