GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Two men who tried to rob a pizza delivery driver in Goldsboro were arrested after they chased the driver back to the restaurant and threatened him, police said Thursday.

The Papa John’s driver told Goldsboro police that he delivered an order Wednesday to the Irish Inns Motel, at 1104 Sunburst Drive, and was leaving when he encountered the men in a dark-colored Toyota Highlander.

The driver said the men tried to rob him, but he fled and called 911 as he headed back to the restaurant. The men followed the driver to the restaurant, where they allegedly threatened him.

Police found the suspects a short time later at the Irish Inns and arrested them. Brandon Lee Cannon, 20, of the 300 block of Belton Circle in Goldsboro, and Santonio Monquail James, 24, of the 100 block of Fisher Drive in Goldsboro, were both charged with attempted common law robbery.

They were held under a $10,000 secured bond and were scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
