DURHAM, N.C. — A pickup truck hit a mother and her 3-year-old daughter on South Alston Avenue in Durham Monday afternoon, police said.

Davonna Wilkins, 25, was leaving her house at about noon with her two young daughters when 3-year-old Shanelle Biddle, ran into the street into the path of a northbound Ford F150 pickup, police said. Wilkins ran after the girl, and the pickup hit them both.

Wilkins and Shanelle were taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment. Wilkins was listed in critical condition early Tuesday. Information about Shanelle's condition was not released.

Police said speed and alcohol weren't factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.

No charges have been filed against the pickup driver, John Henry Parker, 63, of Hillsborough.
